Found around the dry dock of Grimsby fish docks in the eighties on my many forays around the industrial sites of the north of England. Men working on boats and ships would use any available space around them to clean their brushes at the end of a working day. Some might even make something. Influenced by abstract expressionism and found imagery akin to Aaron Siskind and Harry Callaghan, and now coined street photography, this image became a precursor to 'graffiti' and was used by New Order for a songbook in 1990.
